Psalm 90

I am going to grab a couple of excerpts from Psalm 90. I was listening to Shane and Shane this morning. And this just Psalm just struck me.

The days of our lives are seventy years;
And if by reason of strength they are eighty years,
Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow;
For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
11 Who knows the power of Your anger?
For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath.
12 So teach us to number our days,
That we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Our time is short. Don’t waste time on meaningless stuff. Even if we grow old, our time is still but a whisper. Make the most of time He has given you! Psalm 90 reminds us to remember that our days are, indeed, numbered. We need to seek His wisdom. We need to seek Him above all things.

Return, O Lord!
How long?
And have compassion on Your servants.
14 Oh, satisfy us early with Your mercy,
That we may rejoice and be glad all our days!

“Satisfy us early with your mercy.” NOTHING will satisfy us if it isn’t in Him. Our thirst for worldly things will NEVER be quenched. But in Jesus, we will never thirst. In Him, we will find meaning. In Him, we will find abundant life.

Let Your work appear to Your servants,
And Your glory to their children.
17 And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us,
And establish the work of our hands for us;
Yes, establish the work of our hands
.

“Establish the work of our hands.” May the Lord bless the work that He leads us to do. When we are taking our last breath, what do we want to be our legacy? What do we want to be remembered for? Honestly, I just want to say that I have served the Lord in the best way that I could. I know it won’t be perfect, and that is true for all of us. But let us lead live fearlessly. Let us live boldly for Him. So, when trouble comes(and it will come!), let us remember our time is short and that our peace is found only in Jesus. And that peace…nobody can take away.

So, before we fly away, what is it that the Lord would have us accomplish? I think, first and foremost, He wants us to know Him. Get that right, and the rest falls into place. That doesn’t mean it will be easy, but His call will satisfy us.

When the sun comes up satisfy us
Before the day has passed us by
Before our hearts give up, Spirit fill us
Satisfy us with Your love
Satisfy us with Your love
