Ted Lasso, Season 4, drops this week. I am rewatching old seasons to refresh my memory before the new season. I came across a scene which hammers home honest motives.
During Season 1, episode 4(ironically titled “For the Children”), there is a scene near the end of the episode as Ted and Rebecca are leaving the charity dinner. Rupert, Rebecca’s ex-husband who cheated on her, has thoroughly shown-up Rebecca. He has done everything in his power to embarass Rebecca at the galla. But as they walk down the steps to catch their respective rides, Ted provides a little pearl of wisdom for Rebecca regarding Rupert…
Ted: What a charmer, huh?
Rebecca: Indeed.
Ted: I know that you may think you are the only one that can see who he really is….but you’re not.
That quote just struck me. And organization or a person can fake their motives and whitewash their true priorities. But in the end, the truth wins. People see through the half truths, smear campaigns, and the “if you only knew” comments. People care how they are treated.
As you might imagine, the Bible has something to say about the duplicity of men. God is not fooled. True scales belong to the Lord, and not men.
Honest scales and balances belong to the Lord;
all the weights in the bag are of his making.
God knows. Man may try to create a worldly narrative. But the narrative is ultimately His and His alone.
