The cross country training block begins next week!
You know I enjoy sharing good podcasts. Let’s keep this post short, and let me point you to Steve Magness and Jon Marcus. They host a podcast called The Science of Running: On Coaching. They also have a fantastic website called the Science of Running which is linked below. The Scholar Program(on the Science of Running site) is a pay site which is LOADED with great running information. Take some advice…pay it and unlock all that you could ever know about running. You will be overwhelmed with great information.
I am going to post one podcast just so you can find your way to the podcast. This is the most recent, and I haven’t listened to it yet! I love their stuff. It is up to date and useful. Joe Vigil would often to get up at 4:30AM to get the latest information. Great coaches change, adapt, and keep the good stuff.
Recovery is the biggest thing that you need to know about as a parent and young runner. If you fail to educate yourself(and even if you already know), you are playing with fire.
The Scholar Program is simply the best resource on the internet for running. The Science of Running has 100s of great articles about past great coaches, great running programs, periodization of training, polarized training, and so much more.

I know many of you who parent young runners might have no idea what you are doing. I get asked for resources quite often, and I claim no expert label. My best advice is to READ!!!! And read from good sources!!! The best way to keep your runner healthy, fit, and happy is to be educated. The next best thing is never be afraid to ask questions of experienced runners and coaches. And always remember, every runner is different. What works for one runner might not work for another. Learn the difference between fast-twitch running/training and slow-twitch. We will cover that in the next article.
ProTip: Go run in beautiful places! We will talk soon about some of the local places in NE TN.
