Are those around us experiencing His Kingdom when we are around?
Heavy and important question. We must do your best to live our lives in such away that we are the living stones that Ray Vander Laan spoke about in his series The Dust of the Rabbi.
Speaking of which. I always like to share things which I have found meaningful in my walk with Jesus. The Dust of the Rabbi is a fantastic series which Ray does from Biblical archeological sites. The episode about “Living Stones” is incredible.
After wandering for 40 years in the desert after leaving Egypt, God brought his people home….
Joshua 4: 1-7 When all the nation had finished passing over the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua, 2 “Take twelve men from the people, from each tribe a man, 3 and command them, saying, ‘Take twelve stones from here out of the midst of the Jordan, from the very place where the priests’ feet stood firmly, and bring them over with you and lay them down in the place where you lodge tonight.’” 4 Then Joshua called the twelve men from the people of Israel, whom he had appointed, a man from each tribe. 5 And Joshua said to them, “Pass on before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take up each of you a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the people of Israel, 6 that this may be a sign among you. When your children ask in time to come, ‘What do those stones mean to you?’ 7 then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever.”
1 Peter 2: 4-6 And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by people, but is [a]choice and precious in the sight of God, 5 you also, as living stones, [b]are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Joshua placed twelve stones as a reminder that the Jordan’s waters were cut off by the Lord so that Israel could cross over into the promised land. Jesus would again mirror that moment during his lifetime as he became God’s living example to us. Through Jesus…God no longer dwells in a temple, but in His people. The curtain was torn. The impediment to His presence was cleared.
When people look back at our lives, will they see someone who followed Jesus, or will they see something else?
I love this hymn. I have shared it before. Happy Sunday.
Sing it to the daughters, sing it to the sons
To every generation, look at what the Lord has done
Sing it to the darkness that the light has come
Sing it to the nations, look at what the Lord has done
