I think people across this country are sick and tired of dealing with central office employees who dictate practices to their kids’ schools and then have zero accountability when their policies fail! They just disappear when scores flop as a result of their interventions. And let’s be real, most of those employees probably lack the ability to implement those policies at a classroom level, ie they are unable to implement their own policies.
So, here is a novel idea which is being implemented by the El Paso Independent School District. ALL central office employees are required to substitute teach for eight days per year which is four days per semester. Exemptions are on a case by case level. The superintendent must participate.
What a great idea!!! The idea is to make sure that central office employees stay connected to the very policies which they implement, stay connected to their faculties, and have a front-line understanding of teacher/student/family educational experiences. This also helps alleviate money spent on substitute teachers.
Bring. It. On. Better yet, subject central office personnel to the same emotionless, clinical walk-throughs (that they require) and also the same teacher evaluation process!!!
All EPISD employees are required to complete substitute training, SpEd training, and all online trainings. Haha! YES!!!!
EPISD said the initiative is intended to address several needs, including substitute teacher staffing shortages, continuity of instruction and stronger connections between Central Office employees and the campuses they serve. ~ Monica Cortez, KTSM News
I picture Central Office employees receiving the news like reel below(one of my favorites!)…Central Office employees, “Are you in, or are you out!?”
