TSSAA Passes One Time Transfer Rule – Sort of….

The TSSAA finally passed a one time transfer rule. They were forced to pass something as the Tennessee legislature has floated a bill that would usurp control of that specific issue from TSSAA oversight. The old TSSAA rule would have interfered with voucher and school choice legislation which had recently passed. The release by the TSSAA stops short of granting a one time transfer for any reason. The new policy reads:

An addition to Article II, Section 13 regarding Eligible Transfer Students was approved by the Council. The addition states the following:

The first time the student transfers to another school due to a significant academic, social-emotional, environmental or mental health need. The sending school’s administration must attest that the move is not for athletic or disciplinary reasons.

The Tennessean has more on this story at:

The Tennessee House may still pursue a bill that goes further. I highly doubt this is issue has reached its final conclusion. Stay tuned….
